Pune On Orange Alert Today: Extremely Heavy Rain To Drench City – See Weekly Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pune today. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of the district. Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions. Monsoon activity intensified slightly across Pune district on Friday, with several ghat regions witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall. Among them, Shirgaon topped the charts with 160mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am, qualifying as very heavy rainfall. Ambona followed with 154mm, while Davdi received 127mm. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall between 15.6mm and 64.4mm is considered moderate, 64.5mm to 115.5mm is heavy, and anything above 115.5mm qualifies as very heavy rainfall. Rainfall exceeding 204.4mm is classified as extremely heavy. Several locations recorded heavy rainfall, including Lonavla (101mm), Dongerwadi (99mm), Bhira (79mm), Walwhan (77mm), and Tamhini (75mm). Mulshi (Camp) and Mulshi (Bung) registered 73mm and 68mm respectively. Other areas such as Khopoli (54mm), Kundle (45mm), Bhivpuri (42mm), Khand (39mm), and Nilshi (37mm) reported moderate rainfall. The distribution reflected the typical monsoon pattern, with the Western Ghats receiving the brunt of the showers. Meanwhile, areas like Dudulgaon (9mm) and Lavale (6.5mm) received light rain. Central Pune saw very little precipitation, with Pashan and Narayangaon logging just 1mm, Dapodi 0.5mm, Shivajinagar 0.4mm, and Baramati only 0.2mm. Pune is set to witness heavy rainfall over the coming days, with an orange alert issued from June 28 to July 1, warning of heavy to very heavy rain. From July 2 to 4, a yellow alert has been issued, predicting continued heavy showers in the region.
