Following a tip-off from Odanadi Seva Samsthe, an NGO based Mysuru, the Hubballi police raided a lodge here on Friday and have arrested five, and rescued five women.
According to Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar, the raid was carried out based on information provided by the NGO and the all the rescued women engaged in prostitution were natives of West Bengal.
The raid was carried out at Parijata Residency at Hosur in Hubballi following tip-off on the prostitution racket by founder of Odanadi Stanely who was also present during the raid.
According to the police, boxes of condoms distributed by Tamil Nadu Health Department were found. In one of the toilets of the lodge, there was a secret door for entering a hideout in case of any raids.
The Police Commissioner has given the names of the arrested as Ganesh Honnegowda, 36, of Hassan district, Bhaskar Naik, 39, of Uttara Kannada district, Mahehs Kuppelur, 30, of Haveri district, Ravi S.,26, of Mysuru district and Ravikumar K., 35 of Tumakuru district. Another accused identified as Harish is absconding.
