Amazon billionaire and space tourism advocate Jeff Bezos may have been temporarily brought down to earth this week when protesters reportedly forced one of his wedding events to move from a 16th-century hall in the middle of Venice to a more secure location, but, as they say in showbusiness, the show must go on.
The 61-year-old and his fiancee, Lauren S谩nchez, 55, arrived in the Floating City on Wednesday, ahead of a three-day extravaganza some speculate could cost anywhere between $US10 million and $US76 million ($15.3 million and $116.7 million). Ninety private jets, according to the London Telegraph, are bringing in tech tycoons and Hollywood high-flyers for the occasion. But there鈥檚 one thing they鈥檒l be travelling without.
What do you get the man who has everything? That鈥檚 a conundrum the who鈥檚 who of the world鈥檚 elite won鈥檛 have to ponder, according to ABC News, which claimed to have obtained a portion of the Bezos-S谩nchez wedding invitation sent to guests in May. Per the purported invite, the bride and groom鈥檚 鈥渙ne early request鈥 for their nearest and dearest was 鈥渘o gifts鈥.
鈥淒onations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city鈥檚 irreplaceable cultural heritage, to CORILA to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice鈥檚 future, and to Venice International University to support research and education for sustainable solutions,鈥 the invitation reads, noting the contributions to the ancient Italian city are being made 鈥渨ith gratitude to you for making the journey鈥 to celebrate the happy couple.
