The highly anticipated new series featuring Freddie Highmore has finally announced a release date, coinciding with the launch of an enthralling new trailer. Prime Video has unveiled a first glimpse at The Assassin, a gripping, action-filled drama that pairs Highmore with renowned actress Keeley Hawes. This captivating six-part series portrays the duo as a mother and son estranged from each other, who are forced to go on the run when their past resurfaces. The fresh trailer, released today (Thursday, 3rd July), teases an exhilarating chase filled with unexpected twists and breathtaking moments. As one of the most eagerly awaited original shows this year, the trailer also reveals the premiere date to be Friday, 25th July, so the wait won’t be long, reports the Mirror . The synopsis states: “The trailer introduces retired assassin Julie (Hawes) and her distant son Edward (Highmore) caught in high-stakes drama and thrilling action as they must escape from a serene Greek island when Julie’s perilous past catches up with her. “Amidst questions surrounding Edward’s parentage and Julie’s previous life as a hitwoman, the pair embark on a pan-European flight, joining forces in a battle for survival. “Throughout their journey, their dysfunctional relationship is pushed to its limits. They stumble upon a sinister conspiracy they initially believe to be their sole threat, but a greater danger emerges that could completely shatter their relationship. “In a race against time, Julie fights to save Edward and salvage their relationship as past and present collide in a showdown across the globe…” Joining Highmore and Hawes is a star-studded cast boasting a wealth of talent from popular films and television series. The supporting cast features Gina Gershon from Riverdale, Shalom Brune-Franklin of Baby Reindeer fame, Jack Davenport from The Morning Show, and Richard Dormer, known for his role in Game of Thrones. Completing the ensemble are Alan Dale, Gerald Kyd, Devon Terrell and David Dencik. The creative minds behind the project are Harry and Jack Williams, recognised for their work on The Tourist, Boat Story and The Missing. Additional scripting has been provided by Krissie Ducker from Killing Eve, Hamish Wright of Significant Other, and Selina Kim from Sex Education. With such an impressive line-up both on-screen and off, The Assassin is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about new thrillers of the year. The Assassin premieres Friday, 25th July exclusively on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.
