Police searching for key witness after fatal traffic incident

Detectives investigating a fatal traffic incident are urging a key witness to come forward. They believe the person they are want to talk to may also be a potential victim. Three incidents of collisions involving pedestrians and a car were reported on Saturday, May 3 on Bury Road and Whitworth Road in Rochdale . A woman who was hit on Whitworth Road died as a result of her injuries. Keith Michael Knight, 49, of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder and five counts of attempted murder. He remains remanded in custody until November. The investigation is being led by Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, and CCTV enquiries have identified a possible further victim on Bury Road. It is believed a car mounted the kerb and may have driven towards her, and that the woman may not have realised the significance of this incident at the time. Officers would now like to speak to her – or any other witnesses – as they believe she can help with their enquiries. The woman has been described as white, with short blonde and brown hair and was wearing a light-coloured long-sleeved top, blue jeans and white trainers at the time of the incident. Detective Sergeant Ella Purtill, of the Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team, said: 鈥淥ur investigation is progressing, and we have now identified another potential victim who we would like to speak to in connection with these incidents. 鈥淲e are appealing for this woman to come forward so we can speak to her and establish the full circumstances. “If you believe you are the woman or know who it is, information can be shared through our Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/06GMP25S05-PO1 . 鈥淵ou can call the Major Incident Team directly on 0161 856 4814.
