Police issue update after car smashes into Nando's restaurant

Police have issued an update after a car smashed through a Nando’s restaurant. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, blocked a main road as they rushed to the incident yesterday, June 30. Emergency vehicles could be seen parked up along Great Portwood Street, close to the Portwood Roundabout, at around 5.20pm. A vehicle was involved in a collision with another car and was sent hurtling towards the restaurant window, sending shards of glass shattering to the ground. An ambulance and police vehicle were seen blocking the westbound carriageway following the crash. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service also attended. Video footage of the aftermath, shared by Exploring with Jake on social media and viewed over 100,000 times, showed how one of the vehicles had narrowly missed a lamppost before smashing into one of the windows. Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed this morning (July 1) that no arrests were made following the incident. The force also confirmed that there were no serious injuries as a result of the smash. The fire service confirmed they were called to reports of a two-car collision, which involved one of the cars crashing into the Nando’s restaurant. One fire engine from Offerton attended but no action was taken. Part of the window was seen boarded up with wood following the collision. Nando’s has been approached for a comment. — Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
