Article contentCITY GARDEN AWARD COMPETITION: The Pembroke Horticultural Society and the City of Pembroke are sponsoring a “City Garden Award Competition”, which will take place from June until September 2025. You must be a resident of the City of Pembroke to participate. Email one photo of either your front yard or backyard garden. It can be either flowers or vegetables. One picture per household per month. Entries must be submitted by the 25th of each month to recreation@pembroke.ca. All entries should have a name, address, phone number and email address attached. Winners will be chosen by the Pembroke Horticultural Society. The winning photo will be published in the Pembroke Observer and News and on the City of Pembroke website the 1st week of the following month. There will be a “first prize” only, which will consist of a one-year membership to the Pembroke Horticultural Society. Let’s have some fun and share our love of gardening with others.

Photo by Submitted photo Wednesday, July 2 PEMBROKE FARMERS’ MARKET: The Pembroke Farmers’ Market is located at the corner of Lake and Victoria Streets and is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Currently available are new potatoes, lettuce mixes, radishes, rhubarb, green onions, peas, micro greens and mushrooms with new seasonal produce arriving each week. We also have gluten free and sour dough baking, local meats, honey, maple syrup, ice cream, eggs, yogurt, cheese curds, flowers, one-of-a-kind crafters and more. Our canteen serves breakfast and lunch and also offers prepared meals for takeout featuring local products from the market vendors. There is lots of free parking and easily accessible washrooms.

The Echo Centre will be hosting horseshoes there the first and third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. Soak up the great outdoors and connect with others – all in a welcoming community atmosphere. With North Algona Wilberforce Township now managing the facility, the space is revitalized for year-round fun, including our horseshoe sessions. Article content Tuesday, Aug. 26 THE STEPCREW PERFORMANCE: Step dance and fiddle fans can’t miss this show! The exhilarating performers of The StepCrew are bringing their dynamic Celtic/Canadian music and dance show to Festival Hall on Tuesday, August 26th. The group was founded by Cara Butler, famous for her Irish dancing skills, and Eganville’s Jon and Nathan Pilatzke, multi-award winning Ottawa Valley step dancers well-known on fiddle and step-dancing circuits. The three were long-time performers with iconic Irish band The Chieftains and have travelled the world with this show. The StepCrew ensemble features nine of the best tap, Irish and Ottawa Valley step dancers and musicians on the Celtic music scene today and they have created a dynamic crowd-pleasing show to rave reviews.
