PDP Crisis Deepens: Suswam Threatens to Leave Party

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has warned that he may leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the ongoing crisis within the party is not resolved.

Suswam’s comments came after a recent conflict over the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National publicity secretary, which has sparked divisions among party leaders.

In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Suswam expressed his frustration with the lingering crisis in the PDP.

When asked if he plans to leave the party, he replied, “There’s a possibility that I will.” Suswam added that he could explore alternative parties, including the Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and even the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP’s crisis has been fueled by disagreements over the party’s leadership and structures. The National Working Committee (NWC) has accused Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum of undermining the party’s constitutionally recognized structures.

The NWC’s statement has further complicated the party’s long-standing crisis, with leaders divided over the issues plaguing the party.

Suswam mentioned that he has several options, including the Labour Party and the NNPP led by Rabiu Kwankwaso. He also left the door open for joining the APC, saying, “APC can be an alternative.”

The former governor’s comments have added to the uncertainty surrounding the PDP’s future.
