Oshoala, Alozie shine as CAF unveils WAFCON slogan ‘Born Winners’

CAF has unveiled ‘Born Winners’ slogan for WAFCON as Oshoala, Alozie and Ajibade take centre stage

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially launched the slogan for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Morocco: ‘Born Winners’ a tribute to the fierce and unstoppable spirit of African women in football.

What is Born winners

More than a slogan, ‘Born Winners’ represents a mindset a celebration of the resilience, excellence, and leadership embodied by African women both on and off the pitch.

From bustling city streets to the bright lights of packed stadiums, the slogan echoes the powerful rise of African women who are not just part of football.

CAF recognises Super Falcons stars

CAF’s announcement comes with fitting recognition for some of the most influential names in the game, including Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, and team captain Rasheedat Ajibade.

Oshoala, one of the continent’s most decorated footballers, returns to the tournament for her fifth WAFCON appearance. Since making her debut in 2014 when she helped Nigeria claim the title in Namibia, the 30-year-old has risen to iconic status.

She currently holds a record-breaking six CAF Women’s Player of the Year awards (2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023), making her the most successful female footballer in African history.

Michelle Alozie, another Super Falcons standout, represents the modern African woman balancing passion with purpose. A graduate in Molecular Biology, Alozie has gained attention not only for her performances on the field but also for her role as a health professional, once donning a lab coat layered over her national team jersey, symbolising dual excellence in science and sport.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, known for her leadership and dynamism, also featured in CAF’s rollout, reinforcing the strength of Nigeria’s squad and the broader message of female empowerment driving the tournament.

The WAFCON will be staged in Morocco, with Nigeria drawn into Group B, where they will take on Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.

The Super Falcons will kick off their quest for a 10th continental crown on Sunday, July 6, against Tunisia in Casablanca.

Having already claimed nine titles out of 12 since the tournament’s inception in 1998, Nigeria remains Africa’s most decorated women’s national team.
