NYC heat wave persists for another day before cooldown Thursday: Weather forecast

We鈥檙e not done perspiring just yet.

New Yorkers will have to bear another day of extreme heat Wednesday before temperatures cool, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., with public officials and meteorologists continuing to warn about the risks of heat-related illness, especially for older people and those with health conditions. The heat index, which accounts for humidity, is forecast to reach 100 degrees midday.

鈥淭his is dangerous, potentially deadly heat,鈥 NYC Emergency Management said in a statement. The agency added that more than 500 New York city residents die each year from extreme heat, and most of them were in homes without air conditioning.

Officials urged New Yorkers to drink lots of water, conserve energy and check on their neighbors. A map of cooling centers across the city is available here.
