NDC鈥檚 Ashie Moore files lawsuit over alleged $3m fraud, denies wrongdoing

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has rejected claims that he is the subject of a lawsuit involving a $2.2 million transaction, asserting instead that he is the victim of a multi-million-dollar fraud.

In a statement issued by his lawyer, Gideon Tettey Tetteh, Mr Moore described the allegations as 鈥渇alsehoods鈥, clarifying that the individual at the centre of the dispute, a Chinese national named Tou You Kang, is currently on remand.

According to the statement, Mr Moore and his business partners filed a formal complaint with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, accusing Mr Kang of defrauding them of approximately $3 million under false pretences. The matter is reportedly under further investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), which is also probing related allegations that Mr Kang may have embezzled $2.8 million from the group.

鈥淭here is no truth to reports that Mr Ashie Moore has received any payment of $800,000 from the suspect,鈥 the statement clarified. 鈥淚n fact, it is Mr Kang who defrauded Mr Ashie Moore and his associates, causing significant harm to their business operations.鈥

The legal team has also petitioned the Attorney General鈥檚 Office to assume oversight of the case, arguing that the financial scope exceeds the investigative capacity of the police.

Mr Moore has firmly denied online claims that he extorted money from Mr Kang, seized his passport, or inflicted physical harm. 鈥淭hese are baseless accusations intended to tarnish the impeccable reputation of Mr Ashie Moore,鈥 his lawyer stated, adding that the police are handling the case with professionalism and that defamation suits will be pursued against individuals spreading misinformation.

The controversy was sparked by an anonymous online article alleging that Mr Moore had been sued for $2.2 million, a claim his legal team has dismissed as 鈥渢imorous and without merit鈥 due to the absence of identifiable authorship.

Mr Ashie Moore has pledged to pursue all legal remedies necessary to clear his name and hold to account anyone attempting to damage his public image.
