An employee posted at the Indian Navy鈥檚 headquarters in Delhi has been arrested on charges of espionage after he was accused of spying for the Pakistani Intelligence agency ISI, apparently for years and even during Operation Sindoor.
The accused, identified as Vishal Yadav, works as a clerk at the Navy HQ and is a resident of Haryana. He was taken into custody by the intelligence wing of the Rajasthan Police following months of surveillance.
According to NDTV, data from Yadav鈥檚 cellphone revealed that he had provided confidential information related to the Navy and other defense units to a woman, who was his Pakistani handler in exchange for money. Yadav was in constant touch with her through social media.
A senior police officer, Vishnukant Gupta, said that the CID Intelligence unit of Rajasthan was constantly monitoring the espionage activities carried out by Pakistani intelligence agencies.
The woman, identified as Priya Sharma, was reportedly paying him money to extract confidential information of strategic importance.
Vishal Yadav was addicted to playing online games and needed money to cover his losses. He was receiving money via cryptocurrency trading account and also directly in his bank accounts, the officer said, reported NDTV.
The accused is currently in custody and is being investigated for leaking sensitive information. Meanwhile, the security agencies have urged the people to be alert to suspicious activity on social media and report it immediately.
