A shocking incident unfolded near Thidanad in Kottayam on Wednesday, after a man’s body was discovered trapped beneath a culvert along Chittattinkara Road.
The body was spotted by a local woman who had gone to the stream to wash clothes. Disturbed by the sight, she immediately alerted the authorities. Police arrived at the scene soon after and cordoned off the area.
Initial observations suggest that the body had been lying in the water for nearly two days before being discovered. The deceased has been tentatively identified as Lakshmanan, a daily wage worker hailing from Palakkad. He had been living in and around Thidanad for the past several years.
Police suspect that the man may have accidentally fallen into the stream while drinking alcohol near a rock adjacent to the road. However, officials are not ruling out other possibilities, and a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of death.
The discovery has left the local community in shock, and many are now calling for improved safety and surveillance along isolated stretches of road near the waterbody.
