Comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui has finally opened up about the real reason behind his quiet wedding to makeup artist Mehzabeen Coatwala in May 2024. In a candid conversation with Farah Khan on her YouTube channel, Munawar shared that the decision to get married wasn’t planned long in advance—it was made just a month before the wedding—and was rooted deeply in his love for his son, Mikael.
When Farah asked him if he knew Mehzabeen while he was still in the Bigg Boss house, Munawar responded with a firm “No.” She was surprised to learn that the wedding happened within just five months of them knowing each other.
Opening up about the moment that changed everything, Munawar said, “When I came out of Bigg Boss, I was working a lot. Mikael was living with my sister then. He was with me for a week and we spent a lot of time together and when he was leaving, I felt like I don’t want him to go. I felt that he needs me. He kept hugging me the whole time.”
He continued, “When he was leaving, I felt like he needs me and more than him, I think I need him. In that moment, I thought what is it that I should do so I can make him stay with me. For him, I took that decision.”
Munawar also revealed that his now-wife Mehzabeen was in a similar phase of life. “She too has a 10-year-old daughter,” he shared. When Farah commented on their “blended family,” Munawar called it a “puzzle.” Reflecting on his proposal, he said, “I asked her the next day, ‘Are you okay marrying me?’ I stayed with that decision the whole night. I felt that Mikael should stay with me, I was just praying for that.”
The wedding was kept under wraps, with no official announcement on social media. In fact, it was only after a fan shared details online—and actress Hina Khan was spotted attending—that the news started gaining traction. Munawar didn’t post about it, keeping the event private and intimate.
Back when he was still inside the Bigg Boss house, Munawar was making headlines for his tumultuous love life. He was said to be dating Nazila Sitaishi, who later announced their breakup during a live session on Instagram while he was on the show. During one of the episodes, Munawar had revealed that his former wife had already remarried and that he had sole custody of his son Mikael.
“I know I’ve made mistakes,” Munawar had once said in the house. But now, with this new chapter of his life, the comedian seems focused on moving forward—with love, purpose, and family at the centre of it all.
