Mumbai Braces For 19 High Tide Days This Monsoon, BMC Issues Advisory

Mumbai is set to experience five consecutive days of high tide, starting Tuesday (June 24), with waves expected to rise beyond 4.5 meters. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a detailed advisory and tide calendar for the 2025 monsoon season, warning citizens to stay away from the shoreline during high tide periods.
According to the BMC’s Disaster Management Department, the city will witness 19 high tide events between June and September 2025. These high tides occur when sea waves rise above 4.5 meters, posing risks of coastal flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and dangerous conditions along beaches and promenades.
The highest tide of the season is expected on June 26 at 12.55pm, with waves projected to reach 4.75 meters. This is part of a continuous five-day spell of high tide from June 24 to June 28, with wave heights ranging from 4.59 to 4.75 meters.
The BMC has urged residents and tourists to avoid visiting seafronts such as Marine Drive, Juhu Beach, Worli Seaface, and other coastal areas during the peak tide hours. Authorities have also appealed to fishermen and coastal communities to stay alert and follow real-time updates issued by civic agencies.
Here’s a summary of the key high tide dates in 2025:
June 24–28: Consecutive high tides up to 4.75 meters
July 24–27: Wave heights between 4.57 and 4.67 meters
August 10–12 & 23–24: Moderate high tides around 4.5–4.58 meters
September 8–11: Multiple tides, highest being 4.63 meters on Sept 9
The tide timings have been precisely mentioned by the civic body, with some events occurring in the early hours post-midnight and others around midday, depending on the lunar cycle.
BMC officials emphasised that precautionary barricades and warning signage will be placed at vulnerable spots. Civic disaster teams will also be on standby to respond to any emergencies. The public is advised to follow BMC’s social media handles and local news updates for alerts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert in the city for Tuesday. The city also received intense showers on Monday night, leaving several key areas waterlogged. The rains also disrupted traffic in several areas after which authorities urged residents to stay alert and plan travel accordingly.
