PADAWAN, June 26: Private developers must obtain prior engineering approval and road permits clearly indicating the travel routes of heavy vehicles, particularly for transporting construction materials, before initiating any activities within the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) area.

Stressing this during MPP full council meeting on Wednesday (June 25), MPP chairman Tan Kai said this requirement is crucial to prevent unnecessary road damage, especially on small residential roads not designed to handle heavy or industrial traffic.

鈥淲e have observed frequent road damage due to unauthorised heavy vehicle movement, which leads to repeated and costly repairs, straining public resources,鈥 he said in a statement.

Tan reminded developers that failure to comply with these requirements constitutes a breach of Section 8A of the Sarawak Building Ordinance 1996, as well as a violation of the stipulation for prior planning approval.

Offenders may face enforcement action including the closure of work sites by MPP鈥檚 Engineering and Enforcement Division, with assistance from the police.

鈥淚n fact, a project site access was closed just last month due to non-compliance,鈥 he revealed.

On another note, MPP shared progress updates on infrastructure works under the special Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) allocation, which funds critical local infrastructure.

鈥淔or road works, a total of 121 improvement projects have been approved, with an allocation of RM8.2 million. To date, 47.1 per cent of these projects have been completed,鈥 he said.

For drainage works, Tan informed that 28 projects with an allocation of RM7.8 million have been approved, with a current completion rate of 32.14 per cent.

Additionally, the Council reported that 133 out of 411 routine maintenance projects under the general Marris programme across its jurisdiction have also been completed.

Tan reiterated MPP鈥檚 commitment to transparency, timely delivery, and ensuring the efficient implementation of all funded projects for the benefit of the community.

鈥淢PP remains committed and continues to actively deliver services to make Padawan a more sustainable and liveable community,鈥 he added. 鈥 DayakDaily
