This is the heartwarming moment a beloved assistant headteacher was given an award by TV chef Jamie Oliver. Colleen Green was presented with the 鈥楾his Morning Lifetime Achievement Award鈥 as part of Jamie鈥檚 Good School Food Awards. ITV viewers heard how Colleen was a pupil at Beacon Primary School in Willenhall herself as a child before later working there as a dinner lady in 1999. Speaking about the awards, Jamie Oliver said: 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 have done it without you鈥 Thank you to the show [This Morning].鈥 鈥淲e reached out to your viewers to nominate people who do exceptional things in schools, school food educators, headteachers, people doing sports and nutrition, and of course, the cook.鈥 Speaking about Colleen, he added: 鈥淭his is someone who has just done a great job for one or two years, this is an amazing woman that not only went to this school as a child but has done decades working there. “She has had job progression and always used food to teach the syllabus, science, history, geography, so she just knows.鈥 鈥淪he鈥檚 not just feeding them in the tummy, she鈥檚 feeding them in the mind.鈥 Presenters Ben and Cat then sent Jamie off the sofa to go and surprise an unsuspecting Colleen who was waiting just outside the studio. Colleen became instantly emotional as Jamie sat in front of her and told her she won the award. Colleen responded: 鈥淥h my god, oh dear me!鈥 Jamie said: 鈥淓veryone, your school, the parents, all your colleagues, we鈥檙e so proud of you. What you鈥檙e doing is amazing, inspiring the next generation through food.” Jamie and Colleen then entered the studio to join Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley on the sofa when Cat asked how it felt to be recognised for her career, to which Colleen responded: 鈥淪urreal.鈥 Talking about the importance of teaching children in schools about food and nutrition, Colleen said: 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 a life skill. If they can feed themselves, the world鈥檚 their oyster. “They can travel the world with their taste buds.鈥 Also joining the sofa was Beacon Primary School鈥檚 headteacher, Claire, who described Colleen as 鈥榓mazing鈥.
