KUCHING, June 26: The newly introduced Miri Heritage Trail is poised to significantly enhance tourism in the city by offering visitors a meaningful cultural and historical experience, say local residents.

As per a TVS news report, the Miri Heritage Trail features ten significant historical landmarks: Brighton Beach (Japanese Landing Craft) War Memorial, Lighthouse (Pusara Metali), The Grand Old Lady (Canada Hill), Salome Dam (Canada Hill), World War Two Air Raid Shelter (Canada Hill), Bunkers Batu 1 (Kuala Baram Road), Makam Dato Permaisuri (Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu), Pow Camp and Execution Site (Lopeng), World War Two Memorial Park, and Piasau Bailey Bridge.

According to 18-year-old kitchen assistant Jason Abok, the initiative not only attracts tourists but also plays a key role in educating them about Miri鈥檚 origins and identity.

鈥淚t helps people understand how Miri developed before becoming a city, its past, its culture, and history,鈥 he was quoted as saying, expressing hope that the trail would lead to greater recognition and progress for the city.

鈥淢y hope is that Miri will become more advanced and attract more visitors from outside,鈥 he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, local resident Rahmah Usop said the trail allows both tourists and locals to gain deeper insight into Miri鈥檚 rich heritage.

鈥淚t鈥檚 good because tourists get to learn about the history of Miri, and at the same time, it indirectly informs locals as well,鈥 she said.

Rahmah noted that beyond the sites listed under the official trail, Miri boasts many other destinations worth exploring.

鈥淭here are many special places in Miri. For instance, there are attractions in Bekenu and at the Miri Waterfront. Sometimes, tourists are also brought to Lambir for hiking activities,鈥 she shared. 鈥 DayakDaily
