Pretty recently, we got the news of three researchers from OpenAI joining Meta on the Superintelligence team. Looks like the Meta poaching row is not going to end anytime soon as another AI researcher from OpenAI, Trapit Bansal, has also joined the same team. The aggressive approach of Meta towards poaching could cause some serious hiccups in OpenAI’s journey. Tarpit’s LinkedIn page says he left his role at OpenAI in June 2025. Until now, he has not revealed any details officially regarding his new role. However, multiple reports have suggested that he is making a move to Meta’s Superintelligence team. Trapit Bansal’s Move Could Be A Major Blow To OpenAITrapit serves as a foundational contributor in the o1 model development. He worked closely with the co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever. Bansal played an important role in shaping the beginning journey of reinforcement learning and reasoning. For those who don’t know, Reinforcement learning is a method where AI works on trial and error to learn new things. Keeping all that in mind, it seems pretty obvious that Bansal was a crucial part of OpenAI and his departure from the firm is going to have a considerable effect. While for Meta, Bansal will be joining the Superintelligence team which already consists of high-value players like Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. Reports have also suggested that Zuckerberg is looking to get Safe Superintelligence co-founder Daniel Gross and GitHub CEO Nat Friedman on the table too. As for Trapit’s background, he is an IIT Kanpur (2012 batch) grad from India who joined OpenAI in January 2022. Bansal earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from IIT in mathematics and statistics. He served as a member of technical staff at OpenAI. In addition, he also possesses a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts (specializing in deep learning, meta-learning, and natural language processing). As of now, he is putting up in San Fransisco, California. Get Latest News live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Technology Science and around the world.
