Shreyans Gomes, a 26-year-old from Karnataka, has secured the 372nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services 2025 exam, bringing immense joy to his family and the entire coastal region of Karnataka. Notably, Shreyans achieved this milestone solely through digital learning and his own dedication, without any traditional coaching.
Hailing from Murudeshwar in the Uttara Kannada district of Udupi, Karnataka, Shreyans completed his early education locally and pursued pre-university studies at Alva College in Moodbidri. He later obtained an engineering degree from RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru. His father is a station master in Konkan Railway, and his mother is a housewife. His younger brother, Shreyith, is currently studying in Manipal.
During his engineering studies, Shreyans developed a strong interest in administration and serving the country. He began preparing for the UPSC exam independently. Although he cleared the preliminary exam on his first attempt, he was unsuccessful in the main exam. In his second attempt, he did not clear the preliminaries. However, he persevered and, on his third attempt, successfully cleared all three stages – preliminary, main, and interview.
Shreyans prepared entirely through online and digital platforms, highlighting the potential of digital learning. His success demonstrates that in the digital age, any significant goal can be achieved with self-motivation and the right resources. Candidates from any background can succeed in the UPSC exam if they are self-motivated and willing to work hard. Persistence and patience are key to success.
He emphasised that along with hard work, smart studying is also essential. One should not worry about the results but prepare with full dedication, and the results will follow. Persistence and continuous effort are the most powerful tools on the path to success. Shreyans Gomes’ story is an inspiration not only for the youth of coastal Karnataka but also for students across the country.
