Man Gets Ring Doorbell Notification, Left 'Shocked' When He Sees Who It Is

A Florida man has described feeling “shocked” at the sight of the most-unexpected individual ringing the doorbell outside his house.Osric, from Crestview in Florida, got in contact with Ring to share footage of the moment that was captured on his doorbell cam. That video has since been shared with Newsweek. In the clip, a dog can be seen jumping up to press the doorbell. At one point, the animal appears to be knocking on the door with their paws, eager to be let in.There is a good reason for that, though鈥攊t was Osric’s dog, Kota, who, unbeknownst to him, had earlier escaped their garden in search of adventure. Having evidently had his fill of the outside world, it would appear Kota wanted back in.Dogs are an intelligent species. Psychologist and leading canine researcher Stanley Coren, Ph.D., previously put their intelligence on a par with a 2.5-year-old human child.Kota certainly appears to be a clever canine, having not only staged a daring escape but also, knowing he would likely be in the doghouse for it, being so brazen when it came to coming home. But Kota can be forgiven for that, given what he has gone through as a rescue. “Kota joined our family nearly a year ago,” Osric said. “We have been wanting to adopt a puppy for a while and randomly decided to stop by an adoption event nearby at our local Walmart. We met and fell in love with his sweet and humorous nature.”It took a while for the former shelter dog to adapt to his new surroundings. “Kota started off as a very sleepy and calm boy, then eventually grew into a very active and happy personality,” Osric said. “He loves our family and is the true definition of a hilarious goofball.”If there is one thing Kota loves doing more than anything, though, it’s digging. “Kota’s a digger,” Osric said. “He dug a hole under the fence and got through the gate, then realized no one was around, which led him to ring the doorbell.”Osric said he “did not notice” Kota was gone for what amounted to 30 minutes. “He likes to be outside so we don’t mind him taking a few laps around back,” Osric said. “I had a feeling to go check in on him, but, ultimately, it was the Ring notification that led me to find out he escaped.”Osric never expected to see Kota come up on the video doorbell feed that day. “I was totally shocked and happy I got him before he got hurt or lost,” he said. “With that being said, I think it’s also a funny, normal, everyday occurrence with our little doggo and very intelligent of him to press the Ring doorbell to get our attention at the door.”Despite being a dab-paw with technology, Osric said that this is the first time Kota has used the video doorbell correctly and intentionally.”He has scratched at it before, and rang it on accident before this,” Osric added. “This time, I believe he did use it to get me to the door for sure. He’s learning to use the doorbell, which is cool.”Despite the drama of what happened that day. Osric is pleased to report there have been no repeat incidents. “Kota is as happy as can be,” Osric said. “As of now, he has not escaped since he’s bigger, and he has not needed to ring the doorbell. However, I’m sure he will if need be in the future or when he feels like hearing the chime.”
