Man dies after getting trapped under piece of steel in 'industrial incident'

A man died after he became trapped under a piece of steel in an industrial incident. The man, who was in his 50s, was found in a critical condition on Pedmore Road in Brierley Hill yesterday morning (Tuesday, July 1). Two ambulances raced to the scene just before 10am but sadly, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead a short time later. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an industrial incident on Pedmore Road at 9.53am, two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Trust鈥檚 Critical Care Car and our Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene. “On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was in a critical condition. “Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts they were unable to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.” A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that they were called at around 9.55am. They added: “We were called to reports of a man trapped under a piece of steel at a premises on Pedmore Road, Brierley Hill at around 9.55am yesterday morning (1 Jul). “A man in his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. “Enquiries to establish exactly what happened are ongoing and are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive.” Click here to sign up for breaking updates about the biggest stories in the region.
