Malta Ship Registry launches new Commercial Yacht Code 2025

The Malta Ship Registry has announced the launch of the new Commercial Yacht Code (CYC) 2025, following an in-depth internal review and extensive consultation with industry stakeholders.

Transport Malta explained that the revised Code reflects current international standards and evolving technologies, offering a regulatory framework better suited to the modern needs of the commercial yachting sector. CYC 2025 supersedes the 2020 edition and came into effect on the 1st of July.

The updated Code applies to commercial yachts with a load line length of 24 metres or more, carrying up to 12 passengers. TM said that 鈥渋t introduces enhanced safety and compliance measures while aligning with market demands and operational realities.鈥

鈥淭his revision aims to maintain Malta鈥檚 standing as a leading jurisdiction in the global yachting industry by providing a responsive and future-oriented regulatory environment,鈥 said Transport Malta.

It noted that as of the end of May 2025, 424 commercial yachts over 24 metres (163,556 GT) are registered under the Malta flag.

All applicable commercial yachts will be required to comply with the provisions of CYC 2025. Yachts currently certified under CYC 2020, or those undergoing survey to that standard, must transition to the new requirements by their first renewal survey after the 31st of December 2025, said TM.
