Majorca Airport roof collapses with passengers left terrified

A roof collapsed in a major Majorcan airport, leaving passengers terrified. Glass and debris from the ceiling were caught on camera after part of the roof in the arrivals area collapsed at the Palma Airport in Majorca yesterday afternoon at around 4.30pm. Images and videos caught by passengers showed glass and material from the roof scattered across the floor, with crowds of people huddled away from the rubble. It has been reported that the incident came about after a “loud bang” was heard, followed by parts of the roof raining onto the floor below. Police swiftly cordoned off the area in a bid to investigate what happened for the section of roof to fall down unexpectedly, the Sun said. Following the occurrence, passengers were moved to another area of the airport. After passengers and crew had time to calm down, one worker described how it was a “miracle” no one was seriously wounded by the debris. Spanish airport authority, AENA, said it believed the event occurred when something fell, and managed to penetrate through the roof of the Majorcan airport. One woman’s video posted showed her exclaiming “Oh my God,” as dust covered the area where the roof panel had landed in the arrivals hall.
