Maharashtra assembly pays homage to astrophysicist Dr Jayant Narlikar

Mumbai, Jun 30 (PTI) The Maharashtra legislative assembly on Monday paid homage to renowned astrophysicist and science writer Dr Jayant Narlikar, who passed away in Delhi last month.
Speaker Rahul Narwekar moved a condolence motion, and the House observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect.
Dr Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, one of the most distinguished astrophysicists who was globally acclaimed for co-developing the Hoyle–Narlikar theory of gravity — an alternative to Einstein’s general relativity — and popularising science among common people, died on May 20 at the age of 86.
The House also paid tributes to former legislators Lahanu Kom, Shraddha Tapare and Rohidas Deshmukh.
The three-week monsoon session of the state legislature began at the Vidhan Bhavan. PTI MR ARU
