India鈥檚 T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has successfully undergone surgery for a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany.
Last week, PTI reported that Suryakumar was dealing with a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen and might need surgery.
鈥淟ife Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I鈥檓 already on the road to recovery. Can鈥檛 wait to be back,鈥 the 34-year-old batter posted on his social media handle on Wednesday.

A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury in the groin or lower abdomen, often affecting muscles, tendons, or ligaments.
Following the surgery in Germany, he is set to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI鈥檚 Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in about two weeks.
India鈥檚 next white-ball series will be a tour of Bangladesh in August, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.
Suryakumar, who hasn鈥檛 played in the 50-over format since the 2023 World Cup final, is expected to return as the T20I captain in Chattogram on August 26.
This marks Suryakumar鈥檚 third surgery in three years. He had ankle surgery in 2023 and previously underwent the same sports hernia procedure in 2024. He was part of the national team that won the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2024 Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup.
Yadav has scored more than 3,000 runs in international cricket with four centuries. More than 75% of his career runs and all of his centuries have come from T20I matches. Prior to the surgery, Suryakumar was in exceptional form for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and was named Player of the Tournament.
He scored 717 runs, second only to Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan (759 runs), as the Mumbai Indians reached the playoffs but lost to the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2.
In the subsequent T20 Mumbai League, he led the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings.
