Kwara Governor Celebrates Historic Double Victory In Football, Education

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has expressed immense joy over Kwara United FC鈥檚 historic win at the 2025 President Federation Cup and the state鈥檚 victory at the national President School Debate Competition (Senior Category), describing both feats as a reflection of strategic investment in youth development, education, and sports.

The Governor, who joined the Harmony Boys on Sunday evening at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, to lift the coveted Federation Cup trophy, hailed the football club for their resilience, discipline, and teamwork, which led to their victory against Abakaliki FC after a tense penalty shootout.

鈥淭his is a landmark achievement for Kwara United and the good people of our state,鈥 Abdulrazaq said. 鈥淚t is the first time any team from Kwara has lifted the President Federation Cup since the state was created in 1967.

鈥淚 wholeheartedly salute the players, the coaching crew, the management, the Sports Commission, and our dedicated supporters鈥 club.

鈥 I also thank Kwarans at home and in the diaspora for their overwhelming support.鈥

The Governor emphasized that the victory highlights the result of consistent commitment to youth development, describing it as 鈥渁 deserving fruit of hard work and strategic investment.鈥

In a back-to-back celebration, the Governor also lauded the Kwara team that emerged national champions at the Senior President School Debate Competition, marking the first time the state has clinched the title in the senior category. He noted that the victory followed an already impressive record in the junior category, where Kwara鈥檚 representatives, under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), had won three consecutive editions.

鈥淭hese victories 鈥 in sports and education 鈥 are not accidental. They are the result of careful planning, dedication, and the fostering of a culture of excellence among our young people,鈥 he said.

Governor Abdulrazaq added that the dual achievements further affirm Kwara鈥檚 rising profile in national development and its position as a state committed to empowering the next generation.

鈥淎s we savour this moment, we remain committed to putting Kwara in the national and global spotlight for all the right reasons,鈥 he added.

The Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors鈥 Forum, concluded by congratulating all Kwarans and pledged continued support for initiatives that promote excellence and youth empowerment.
