Education rights activist Benedicto Kondowe has questioned the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) over the delayed payment of 137 teachers who supervised this year鈥檚 Standard 8 and Form 2 national examinations.
Kondowe says it is worrying that MANEB had earlier assured the public that everything was in place, including the payment of allowances for teachers. 鈥淲ere they lying to us?鈥 he asked, expressing concern over the board鈥檚 silence.
The affected teachers say they have made several attempts to follow up with MANEB, but nothing has been resolved. Some even claim they are being threatened by certain officials when they ask about their money.
MANEB spokesperson Angella Kashitigu has advised the teachers to report their concerns through the district education offices where they are based.
Meanwhile, the teachers say they feel frustrated and ignored, and are calling for urgent action.
