The officers of Bhadra Dam at Lakkavalli in Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka have appealed to the people residing downstream of the reservoir to remain alert and move to safer places, as excess water could be released any time.
Following heavy rains in the catchment areas of the dam, the inflow to the reservoir has been increasing. As of Friday morning, the inflow was around 21,982 cusecs. The dam authorities could release excess water through the spillway gate anytime.
As of Friday morning, the water level in Bhadra reservoir stood at 2,139.08 ft against the full reservoir level of 2,158 ft. Gross storage on Friday was 49.84 tmcft against the gross capacity of 71.54 tmcft.
The inflow into other reservoirs is also on the rise. The inflow to Linganmakki dam in Sagar taluk was 41,036 cusecs on Friday and the water level stood at 1,789.45 ft against the full reservoir level of 1,819.12 ft. The gross storage for the day was 72.12 tmcft, compared to the gross capacity of 151.75 tmcft.
The crest gates of the Hemavathi dam at Gorur in Hassan taluk have been opened to release excess water. As of Friday morning, the inflow was 15,712 cusecs, with the outflow being 10,850 cusecs. Against the gross capacity of 37.10 tmcft, the gross storage on Friday was 33.66 tmcft.
Similarly, the Tunga Dam at Gajanur near Shivamogga taluk has been full. The outflow on Friday was 68,025 cusecs, while the inflow was 56,926 cusecs. Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa, belonging to the BJP, offered bagina to the river in the city on Friday.
