Kajol opened up about the long-standing age gap between male and female actors in films, particularly the 30-year difference often seen on screen. She pointed out that veteran actors continue to be paired with much younger heroines, a trend that has gone unquestioned for decades. 鈥淣obody is asking why this is happening or what message it鈥檚 sending,鈥 she said. Emphasising the commercial aspect of cinema, Kajol added, 鈥淔ilmmaking is a business鈥攜ou make what you think will sell.鈥 Her honest take sparks much-needed reflection on the industry’s casting choices and gender-based double standards. Kajol talks about the age gap in films In an interview with The Lallantop, Kajol shared her views on the noticeable 30-year age gap often seen between male and female actors in films. She said, 鈥淚 feel this kind of discrimination has been acceptable for so long. Take Rajni sir, for example, or any of the heroes鈥攖here isn鈥檛 a single actor who hasn鈥檛 worked with heroines 30 years younger than them, even when they鈥檙e in their 40s or older. It鈥檚 just been happening for so long that no one has really questioned it. No one has asked: why is this happening? Should this still be happening? What message are we sending out?” “I don鈥檛 think anybody is thinking that deeply. What people are thinking about is making a film, building a good setup, and pairing the right people together. At the end of the day, I keep coming back to the same point鈥攆ilmmaking is a business. You make what you think will sell,” Kajol added.
