A book giving a peek into the life of former US President John F Kennedy claims that the American leader once got a flight attendant pregnant and also paid for her abortion, all this only a few months after his daughter Caroline was born.
The claims were made in his new biography, JFK: Public, Private, Secret鈥, by J. Randy Taraborrelli. The book talks about Kennedy鈥檚 affair with a young flight attendant named Joan Lundberg, according to People.
Two years after meeting Lundberg in 1956, the former American president received a call from her鈥攊nforming him that she was pregnant with his child.
鈥淛oan would recall that her news about the baby was 鈥榣ike a knife to Jack鈥檚 heart.鈥 Jack couldn鈥檛 help but wonder if Joan had purposely planned the pregnancy, given that she鈥檇 seen his devotion to Jackie after Caroline鈥檚 birth. He also wondered if he was really the father, and Joan assured him he was,鈥 the author writes in the book, as per People.
According to the book, Kennedy also told her that he would send her $400 to get an abortion. 鈥溾楤eing a politician is who I am,鈥 he told her. 鈥楶olitics is all I know. If you take that away . . .鈥 His voice trailed off. Before she could respond, he disconnected the line,鈥 says the book.
He sent the money, and Lundberg, who was then 23, 鈥渢ook care of things鈥.
鈥淛ack was very clear; he didn鈥檛 want Joan to have the baby鈥’鈥 She was angry and disappointed, but also realistic,鈥 reads the book.
The book authored by J. Randy Taraborrelli is to be published on July 17.
