An Edinburgh-bound Jet2 flight was forced to divert 700 miles away to Switzerland, and did not reach the capital until hours later. Flight LS3922 departed from Malta as planned at 11.45am on Wednesday, June 25. It was expected to touch down in Edinburgh at 2.45pm, but an unexpected diversion was made to Geneva. According to the airline’s Travel Information page online, it arrived in the Swiss city at 1.06pm, and did not leave again until 9.20pm. It eventually landed in the capital nearly eight hours later than scheduled, at 10.19pm. The circumstances that led to the flight being diverted are not currently known, Edinburgh Live reports . Jet2 has been approached for comment by the Daily Record. Several of the airline’s Scottish flights have been diverted over the past few months. On May 5, a medical emergency was declared on board a flight from Edinburgh to Rome. Another was forced to land at Edinburgh after only leaving Glasgow less than 30 minutes before due to “unforeseen operational reasons”. A Glasgow to Leeds flight had to turn around shortly after take off due to a mid-air “emergency” after a squawk code was issued to air traffic control .
