Jeremy Clarkson reveals David Beckham’s savage swipe at his beer in leaked private message

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed David Beckham playfully taunted his Hawkstone beer and cider range during a messaging exchange.

The former Top Gear host launched the brand alongside a Cotswold brewery in 2021, selling it at his pub The Farmer’s Dog and promoting it on his Amazon Prime Video series, Clarkson’s Farm.

While discussing the perception that he isn’t fully involved in the running of the business, Clarkson pulled out his phone to read a jokey conversation he had with Beckham, 50, on a messaging app.

“I’m going to betray a loyalty here. This is from David,” the 65-year-old told The Times.

“I said congratulations [on Beckham’s selection to guest edit Country Life magazine] and he replied, ‘Thanks for your message; not official yet, but if it happens I’ll have a nice pint of Stella.’”

Clarkson said he replied, “You had better f**king not,” to the football legend’s decision not to drink Hawkstone.

He then quipped to The Times: “If he is going to drink anything that’s not Hawkstone, it should be Beck’s.”

The former Grand Tour presenter then took aim at singer Kylie Minogue’s range of wines, claiming people buy them purely because they’re a “Kylie fan”.

He suggested fans purchase her product once before “going back to a proper rosé”.

Clarkson lives in Oxfordshire not far away from Beckham, who owns a £12 million Grade II-listed estate in Chipping Norton.

Earlier this year, Hawkstone was recalled after it was found to contain an undeclared ingredient that poses a risk to people with gluten intolerance or coeliac disease.

In April, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a recall notice for two products made by The Cotswold Brewing Company — which uses barley from Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire.

The recall applied to all batch codes of the 440ml Hawkstone Black cans and the 330ml Hawkstone Spa Lager. Both beers are sold through Waitrose and the brewery’s own website.

A spokesperson from Hawkstone said: “We have issued an allergen alert for Hawkstone Spa Lager and Hawkstone Black as they contain wheat, which is not currently listed on the product label.

“All customers who have purchased these items have been notified that they can return them for a full refund.

“Both Hawkstone Spa Lager and Hawkstone Black remain fit for consumption for those who do not have a wheat allergy. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
