Jason Manford bags 'dad points' as he admits 'crying his eyes out' at Manchester gig

Jason Manford has been told he’s bagged ‘dad points’ as he was seen attending a gig with his kids in Manchester, but admitted it left him in tears. The Salford-born comedian headed to Co-op Live on Tuesday night (July 1) to watch Olivia Rodrigo in action, 13 months after she was supposed to perform at the new venue. Fresh from her headline set on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on Sunday (June 29), the American singer has spent the past few days performing for fans in Manchester. The shows, part of her Guts World Tour, had initially been planned for last May, but was postponed with just 48 hours notice after the venue鈥檚 opening week of shows were delayed due to a series of technical issues. Stay connected with our City Life newsletter here Jason took to social media to share updates from the gig, which he attended with her four daughters, and was seemingly surprised by how emotional the moment made him. Alongside a video from the concert, the 44-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Am I the only parent who finds themselves sobbing at concerts with their children! Ha! “I鈥檓 literally crying my eyes out watching the joy in their faces singing every word of @oliviarodrigo tonight at @thecooplive. All four of my girls and their pals singing their hearts out is giving me.” And it appears he isn’t alone as fellow parents rushed to respond. @welshy_80 said: “Ahhh we went last night and I got so much from watching my own and other parents/kids loving their best lives. It was ace!” @bethpats wrote: “YESSSSSS – I am obsessed with taking my kids to concerts now because it鈥檚 so cathartic.” @sarahjg1 commented: “Happened when I took my daughter to Taylor Swift. She was sobbing and so was I.” @shell_boudin1986xox replied: “Theres nothing better than live music to bring people together. This is lovely to see .. Defo get you some dad point too.” @katelparkes shared: “Me too! I took mine to Hyde park at weekend and literal sobbed at how happy and excited they were!” @catherinemarymakes posted: “I bet you are the cool dad tonight.” @hdeeley added: “Oh my god @jasonmanford I totally agree! we were there last night and watching my 12 year old daughter feel and express every word was so lush to watch! The atmosphere was amazing and the venue鈥..unbelievable!” But Jason was then seen all smiles as he posed a snap of him posing from his seat, wearing a Olivia shirt from the merchandise stand. Alongside the photo, he wrote: “Even through the emotion of being at this special show with my daughters, when @oliviarodrigo sang her hit song 鈥楧eja Vu鈥 I still managed to turn to my eldest girl and say 鈥淚鈥檓 sure she鈥檚 just sang this鈥. That eye roll was worth it! #DadJokes @thecooplive.” Join our Manc Life WhatsApp group HERE
