Japanese ambassador accredited

President Irfaan Ali on Wednesday accepted the Letters of Credence from the new non-resident Ambassador of Japan to Guyana, Akima Umezawa (centre in front row), at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.

Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Guyana and Japan. A release from the Office of the President stated that Ali said that there are tremendous opportunities for the Japanese private sector to participate in Guyana鈥檚 economic growth and development鈥攑articularly in key areas such as smart and sustainable agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education services, and advances in science, technology, and research.

鈥淚 believe that our cooperation agreement must be updated to reflect these key and critical areas of national development, to see how we can have Japan critically involved in the advancement of our country鈥, he said.
