The Guyana Press Association yesterday elected a new executive with senior journalist Iva Wharton of Capitol News voted in as the new president.
She was one of two people who contested for the position, the other being sports journalist Rawle Toney. Wharton received 40 votes while Toney garnered 12.
Past President Nazima Ragubir could not contest this year as she has served in that role for two consecutive terms and she informed that she did not wish to hold any other role on the current executive.
Returning Officer for yesterday鈥檚 elections was Attorney Dela Britton.
Meanwhile, Ariana Gordon was elected vice president unopposed.
