Based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Border featured Suniel Shetty as Captain Bhairon Singh who was martyred on the battlefield. Nearly three decades after the original film’s release, the JP Dutta directorial is being renewed for a sequel with Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh in the key roles. Sunny Deol, from the original film, has been retained to play a pivotal character.
When asked whether he was feeling a little FOMO about not being part of Border 2, Suniel Shetty earlier told India Today that his son’s presence would make up for it. He said, “Yes and no… no because my son is doing it. If Bhairon Singh is not there, at least little Ahan will be there.”
Earlier, while announcing his role in Border 2, Ahan Shetty shared a heartfelt note on Instagram to celebrate the legacy of the original film. He wrote, “Border is more than a film—it’s a legacy, an emotion, and a dream come true. Ironic how life works—my journey with ‘Border’ started 29 years ago, when mom visited dad on set while pregnant with me. I grew up hearing OP Dutta’s legendary stories, holding JP uncle’s hand, and sitting by Nidhi Dutta’s side. I never realized how much those moments would shape my love for cinema and the Indian Armed Forces. Now, being part of Border 2 is an absolute honour (sic).”
Ahan also added a sweet message for his father Suniel Shetty in the post, writing, “And to you, Papa—everything I am is because of you, and I’ll do my best to honor the legacy you’ve worked so hard to create.”
Suniel Shetty was last seen in Kesari Veer. On the other hand, his son Ahan Shetty made his debut opposite Tara Sutaria with Tadap.
