As per media reports, Ashura鈥攖he 10th day of Muharram鈥攚as observed on July 6, 2025. There was a lot of ambiguity regarding the exact date, as moon sighting was necessary to reach a conclusion. According to PTI, Muharram was observed on July 6 in Telangana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states as well. Processions were carried out, as the day commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who died in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. Now, since Ashura fell on Sunday, July 6, 2025, many college students and school-goers want to know whether July 7 is a public holiday. Well, there is little chance that educational institutions will announce a public holiday on July 7, since Ashura has already passed. However, some schools or colleges may declare a holiday as part of an extended observance or based on regional or state-level decisions鈥攑articularly in areas with significant Shia Muslim populations.
