A YouTuber has taken to her social media account on Instagram, sharing a long video sharing a scary experience of her railway journey while travelling from Delhi to Assam. YouTuber Kanika Devrani said she was travelling alone in the train and her experience with Indian Railways has not been good. Sharing the video, she said, “Indian railway is not safe.” Kanika claimed that she was drugged and robbed while travelling alone in the train. She further claimed that she was travelling in the Brahmaputra Mail when an unidentified man boarded the 2AC coach without a ticket. Kanika said the man sprayed a sedative and stole the mobile phones of several passengers while they were unconscious. Even her phone was stolen. In a video on her Instagram, Kanika said she booked 2AC thinking it would be more secure. She also placed her phone under her pillow, drew the curtains around her berth, and kept the lights off while sleeping. However, despite these measures, she found out that the stranger had reportedly entered the compartment, inquired about seat numbers, and may have used a sedative before stealing valuables. “First class AC tickets weren’t available, so I booked a 2AC ticket thinking it would be safe. At New Jalpaiguri, while I was asleep and my phone was charging near my berth, someone took it,” she said. “I was terrified thinking about what could have gone wrong,” she said, adding that she contacted her family using a spare phone. Kanika alleged that Railway police did not provide proper help to her and she has been struggling to get support from Assam Police as well, with no progress so far. She urged viewers to “travel safe,” and stressed on the lack of security in Indian trains. The video has since gone viral with users questioning how unauthorised individuals could access reserved coaches so easily, especially in the presence of railway staff. She tagged the West Bengal Police and Malda Police in her post, urging authorities to take action. Responding to her complaint, Railway Seva (@RailwaySeva) wrote on X, “For necessary action, escalated to the concerned official.”
