In a move aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in the livestock and poultry sectors, the CLFMA of India in association with the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association (SLVA) and the World Poultry Science Association 鈥 Sri Lanka Branch hosted the India-SriLanka Livestock meet in Colombo last week.
The two day event on July 1 and 2 marked the formal beginning of an institutional dialogue between the two nations and set the stage for collaborative action in areas such as animal health, feed innovation, policy alignment, and knowledge exchange, a CLFMA release said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries and institutional heads from Sri Lanka including Palika Fernando, Additional Secretary (Livestock Development), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, and Sulakshana Jayawardana, Director General 鈥 Treasury, Ministry of Financial Planning and Economic Development among others, the release said.
Divya Kumar Gulati, chairman, CLFMA outlined the trade body鈥檚 mission, recent initiatives, and its long-term vision for regional cooperation. CLFMA executive director Col Vinay Kumarfurther showcased CLFMA鈥檚 impact across India鈥檚 livestock value chain. The dialogue that followed focused on aligning efforts in areas like livestock breeding, veterinary research, nutritional advancements, and capacity-building.

Palika Fernandoaffirmed the government鈥檚 interest in strengthening technical and research collaboration with Indian counterparts. 鈥淭here is tremendous scope for India鈥揝ri Lanka cooperation in livestock breeding, feed innovation, and veterinary sciences. We appreciate CLFMA鈥檚 proactive approach and look forward to institutionalising this partnership.鈥
Other CLFMA delegates who attended the event included Deputy Chairman Naveen Pasuparthy, Honorary Secretary Nissar F. Mohammed, Treasurer R. Ramkutty, President 鈥 East Zone Sameer Chotai and International Liaison Committee Member Jaison John.
By fostering open dialogue and shared goals, the India鈥揝ri Lanka Livestock Meet reaffirmed the power of partnerships in building a robust, sustainable, and inclusive livestock ecosystem for the region.
