I have analyzed the photographic evidence and cracked the case.

If you look VERY CLOSELY, you can discern a few things:

1) They didn’t actually vanish; if you squint just right, you can see one of their skeletons in the photo!!! It may be hard to see because it has dirt on it
2) The circumstances of their not being around anymore may be related to the fact that their skills are all smushed in. If these mysterious ancestors were anything like my neighbor Bill, having their skills all smushed in was probably super bad for them.
3) They are also buried in dirt, which, although most people do not know this, makes it very difficult to call for help, reproduce, or live.

Please feel free to contact me next time you have a difficult mystery that needs solving, but bring beer next time.
