IGP reaffirms commitment to safeguarding schools

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed commitment of the Police towards securing teaching and learning environments across Nigeria.

He said there was need for collaboration from all stakeholders to ensure safer and secured learning environments across the nation.

Speaking in Ibadan at a two-day stakeholders鈥 forum organised by office of the National Coordinator and Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad (SPS) Force Headquarters Abuja, Egbetokun who was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone 11, Emuobo Fred Ekokotu, maintained that collaboration with stakeholders will help in the fight against insecurity in the education sector.

He said: 鈥淭his stakeholders鈥 forum became necessary and important for us to train our Schools Protection Squad (SPS) and to also meet and dialogue with some critical stakeholders in Oyo state on how to ensure a safer and secured learning environment for our children and their teachers.鈥

Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Segun Olayiwola, stressed readiness of the state to partner with the Police in combating crimes that may pose threats to the learning environments across the geo political zones of the state.

He pledged continue support for the Police to ensure safer Oyo State for all and sundry, adding that progress can only be achieved in a peaceful society.

In his address titled: 鈥淪trengthening security resilience and integration of host communities In the protection of education,鈥 Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle reiterated the Federal Government鈥檚 commitments towards ensuring safer and secured learning environments across the country.

Shogunle noted that Egbetokun was very committed to a safer and serene environment for all teaching and learning institutions in the Country.
