How to organize your cargo backpack - Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

It should come as no surprise that one of the things you will be doing a lot in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is moving cargo. There is every kind of container that will need to be carried around, and sometimes you’re gonna have it all stacked on your back. If you wish to do a little organizing to make it easier to manage, this is how.

How to organize your cargo backpack in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

When you start grabbing items to carry in Death Stranding 2, they can quickly add up. Weapons, ammo, grenades, the cargo you need for a mission, and the cargo you find on the way, it can all go on in a pretty haphazard way, and you are asking for trouble if you leave it as it is.

The first thing to do after you load up for a mission is to hold up on the D-pad, which will open the Cargo Management screen. There are various options here, but the one you want to explore is the Auto Arrange Cargo option. Clicking this will arrange your cargo in a smart way, following certain rules.

Delicate and heavy cargo will go at the bottom of your backpack, meaning it is less likely to fall, tumble, and bounce.
Four pieces of appropriately sized cargo will be placed at the shoulders and legs of your suit, as long as your suit supports that. This is great, as it stops things from stacking up on your back and allows you to keep better balance.
Any cargo that has an appropriate pouch or holder will end up there, if there is room. Once again, this saves huge volumes of space. Place some Blood Grenades in your back, then auto-organize and watch them disappear.
The system endeavours to make your backpack as compact as possible, with a good centre of gravity. This can be tough if you are heavily loaded with lots of small items, no matter what you do.

There are a number of other options you can pick, such as drop all minerals or drop all cargo. These are great if you find yourself dealing with enemies, as you can place your cargo, then get in a fight and come back to it later. Just remember where you left it.

One last great tip is your tool rack. Opening your tool menu by holding right on the D-pad allows you to pick any tool you wish. It will then automatically hotswap into your tool rack, allowing you to get it back out quickly just by tapping right on the D-pad instead of holding it. Generally, it’s a good idea to have a weapon ready to go here, just in case you get surprised by anything.
