Hospital funds higher education for 20 underprivileged students in Tirunelveli

In a heartening collaboration, the Tirunelveli district administration partnered with a private healthcare provider to support the academic aspirations of 20 economically disadvantaged students who successfully cleared their Class 12 examinations.

On Monday, District Collector R. Sukumar presented a financial grant of ₹1.52 lakh towards college tuition fees for the 20 deserving students. The contribution was made possible by Porunai Hospitals, led by its Managing Director, Kannan, who took an active part in the event.

Dr. Sukumar emphasized the administration’s ongoing commitment to preventing school dropouts and promoting higher education among marginalized communities. He stated that consistent efforts were being made through mentorship, academic counselling, and connecting students with sponsors and banks for financial aid.

A dedicated career guidance and counselling facility at the Collectorate, staffed by qualified teachers and educationists, assists students in navigating their higher education paths. The centre can be reached at 9500324417 or 9500524417.

Additionally, the administration actively identifies students who have dropped out after Class 12 by reaching out to schools and ensures they are brought back into the educational fold. Special focus is also given to children from single-parent households, offering them extra financial backing.

In this context, Porunai Hospitals’ involvement is seen as a vital step toward making higher education more accessible for all. The initiative reflects a broader effort to uplift the lives of students through targeted support and collaboration.

Also present at the event were District Revenue Officer M. Suganya, Social Welfare Officer Thajunnisa Begum, and CEO of Education Sivakumar.
