HelpAge India has launched its latest campaign titled #WalkInMyShoes (#MeriNazarSeDekho) that urges people, especially the young, to step into the lives of India鈥檚 elderly and understand their everyday struggles and silent resilience. The campaign is anchored by a message from HelpAge India鈥檚 honorary brand ambassador, Sharmila Tagore.
Said Kanchan Sen, Country Head 鈥 Resource Mobilisation & Marketing, HelpAge India: 鈥淭his campaign aims to bridge the gap between generations and fundamentally change the way we think about ageing in India. Our latest report shows that many elders feel unheard, emotionally distant and excluded鈥攐ften sharing sentiments like 鈥楨ven if we live in the same house, we eat alone鈥 or 鈥楨ven loneliness has gone digital鈥 clearly reflects communication gaps and rising social isolation for the elderly which this must be addressed. With the #WalkInMyShoes or #MeriNazarSeDekho campaign, we want to encourage genuine intergenerational bonding and spark conversations between youth and elders, fostering empathy across generations. Despite lifestyle differences and the digital divide, both generations agree on the family鈥檚 central role in elder care. Ageing is a reality that will soon affect every one of us and as a society we are still largely unprepared. We must build a culture of kindness, empathy and respect in which elders are celebrated; where empathy is a way of life; and where no one has to age alone.鈥
