Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated an equestrian statue of Peshwa Bajirao I at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune on Friday.
Following the inauguration, the Home Minister said, 鈥淣DA is the most appropriate place for his memorial as it is the academy where military leadership is being trained.鈥
鈥淗ad the battle for independence started by Shivaji Maharaj and taken forward by the Peshwas for 100 years not been fought, India鈥檚 basic structure would have ceased to exist,鈥 he added.
Shah, who is on a day visit to the city, will also inaugurate the Jairaj Sports and Convention Centre, visit the Balasaheb Deoras Hospital in the Kondhwa area, and attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the PHRC Health City.
Speaking about Peshwa Bajirao, Shah said that in his 40 years of life, he wrote an immortal history that no other person could write.
Meanwhile, in view of Amit Shah鈥檚 visit to the city, some educational institutes located along the route taken by the Home Minister to the venue of the event either announced a holiday, a half day, or online classes to ensure students are not affected by road closures and traffic diversions.
Meanwhile, Shah, on his visit to the NDA, is also scheduled to interact with cadets at the Cadet Mess.
