We need people with action, we don鈥檛 need people with agenda and talking and talk.
This was highlighted by Fiji Bati head coach Wise Kativerata at a drug awareness programme at the Valelevu Youth Training Centre in Nasinu yesterday.
Mr Kativerata called on Government to take decisive action against the rising drug problem.
鈥淚n Fiji, Government do a lot of workshops. I don鈥檛 know how long they鈥檝e been doing workshop after workshop after workshop. And the drug problem keeps rising and rising and rising,鈥 Mr Kativerata said.
The former rugby league player said the issue was personal to him.
His eldest son, who had signed a contract with Melbourne Storm, chose drugs over rugby league and is currently serving six months in jail.
鈥淢y oldest son signed a contract with Melbourne Storm, but he chose to follow the other direction. He went with his Samoan friend to deliver a little package,鈥 he said.
鈥淭hey paid him a lump sum of money. That lump sum of money changed his life and he never got back to training.鈥
The head coach, who worked at the Australian Institute of Sport for eight years, urged youths to find their purpose in life.
鈥淔ind your purpose in life. Education is not only the key to success. Your God-given talent is your key to success,鈥 he said.
鈥淵our future is in you. Once you find your purpose, you鈥檒l find where you鈥檙e going.鈥
Mr Kativerata challenged Government to look at itself in the mirror and decide whether to take action or continue spending taxpayers鈥 money on more workshops while young people continue to fall victim to drugs.
