Gopal Khemka, a well-known businessman and owner of Magadh Hospital in Patna, was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside his apartment on Friday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm near Ramgulam Chowk under Gandhi Maidan police station limits. Khemka was returning home from Bankipur Club when he was attacked. He was rushed to Mediversal Hospital by family members but died during treatment.Started business empire from a medical shopGopal Khemka began his business journey with a small medical store named Aushadhi Medico located on Ashok Rajpath in Patna. Over time, the store expanded into multiple branches across the city.He later diversified into the real estate sector and began dealing in properties. With time, he also acquired a petrol pump license. His business interests eventually grew to include petrol pumps, a factory, and a hospital.Brothers also in medicine businessKhemka was one of four brothers. His elder brother is Vijay Khemka, and his younger brothers are Kishan Khemka and Kanhaiya Khemka. All four are associated with the pharmaceutical business.First company registered in 1985Khemka registered his first company, GK Cotton, in Hajipur Industrial Area in 1985. He also ventured into the carton manufacturing business through partnerships. His elder son Gunjan Khemka was shot dead in Hajipur seven years ago. His younger son, Gaurav Khemka, is a doctor at IGIMS in Patna. His daughter is married and lives in London with her family.Police said that the attackers came on a bike and shot Khemka in the head as he was entering his apartment premises. The case is under investigation, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed.Authorities are yet to confirm the motive behind the killing.SIT formed as probe begins; initial lead points to property disputeHours after the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the supervision of the City SP to investigate the case. The Special Task Force (STF) has also joined the effort to identify and arrest the suspects. The DGP added that, based on early findings, the murder appears to be the result of a property dispute.Attack near home sparks public and political angerThere is public outrage in Bihar after Gopal Khemka, owner of Magadh Hospital and director of Bankipore Club, was shot dead late Friday night. The incident took place near Panache Hotel in the Gandhi Maidan area of Patna around 11:40 pm. Khemka was stepping out of his car near his residence when unidentified assailants on a bike opened fire. Gopal Khemka’s son also shot dead two years agoHis brother, Shankar Khemka, claimed police reached the spot only around 2:30 am, nearly three hours after the attack. He also pointed out similarities to the killing of Khemka鈥檚 elder son Gunjan in 2018, who was shot outside his cotton factory in Vaishali in an unsolved case.CCTV footage reviewed; bullets recovered from crime sceneCity SP (Central) Diksha Kumari confirmed that the crime scene was secured and the forensic team collected evidence, including spent bullets. 鈥淜hemka received one gunshot injury. We have recovered spent bullets from the crime scene, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed for clues,鈥 she said.Murder draws political attention ahead of state electionsThe killing has triggered political responses, especially with the Bihar Assembly elections only months away.
