Seems like trouble and Google are becoming synonymous with every passing day. In the latest series of events, as reported by Reuters, Google has been ordered to pay a hefty sum of $314.6 million to Android phone users in California. The decision came after the state court in San Jose ruled in favour of the plaintiffs in a class-action suit. The jury came to an agreement that Google was responsible for sending and receiving information from Android devices without any user permission when devices were in an idle state. As the lawsuit states, this resulted in a mandatory and unavoidable burden on Android device users for Google’s benefit. The suit also mentioned that Google programmed the Android smartphones to transfer data to Google’s servers when the user is not connected to a WiFi network. Google used all of the collected information for organizational benefit and deployed highly targeted digital advertising. Details About Class Action Lawsuit The class-action lawsuit was filed against Google at the Santa Clara Superior Court in 2019 on behalf of California Residents. According to a Bloomberg report, another federal case is pending for Android users in the United States that will kickstart in 2026. Google representative Jos茅 Castaneda has stated that the court ruling could be dubbed a major setback for the users as it clearly misunderstands the services that are necessary to provide reliability, performance, and security to Android devices. For those who don’t know, this is not happening for the first time that Google is facing a lawsuit in its home ground. As of now, the company is under the radar in multiple cases globally. The crux here is that Google needs to become more transparent with its terms and conditions in order to keep the user’s trust in check.
