Ghanaian Pastor condemns gay kiss at Freedom Arch, calls for arrest and prosecution

Superintendent of Assemblies of God Eastern Region B, Rev. Obed Asiedu, has described the recent viral photos of a South African gay couple kissing at the Freedom and Justice Arch as 鈥渄isgusting and a sacrilege鈥 in a sovereign nation like Ghana.

The man of God stated that the incident should not be swept under the carpet, and authorities must do everything possible to apprehend the couple, wherever they may be, to prosecute them.

Speaking on 鈥淣yankonton Mu Nsem鈥 on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Rev. Asiedu asserted that this incident highlights why the Christian community and other religious groups have underscored the need for the anti-LGBTQI+ bill to be passed by Parliament and assented to by President John Dramani Mahama without any delays.

鈥淟GBTQI+ is a grievous sin and a sacrilege which must not be entertained in Ghana. We should not encourage it. As responsible citizens, we have a responsibility to speak against these evil activities. The kissing photos of the South African gay couple were disgusting and an insult to Ghana. They had nowhere else to engage in their evil act than the Freedom and Justice Park. I am of the view that we have to fish them out from wherever they may be and arrest and prosecute them because what they did was against the laws of Ghana.鈥

He continued, 鈥淲e don鈥檛 accept LGBTQI+. Our forefathers were against it, and we are also against it. Traditionalists and Muslims are also against it. It is not part of our culture, and if other countries recognise LGBTQI+, they should not impose it on Ghana. We will resist it. I am appealing that when Parliament passes the anti-gay bill, the President should waste no time in assenting to it.鈥
